Which iRacing Tracks Should You Buy?
With over 100 paid tracks in iRacing, choosing what to buy can be overwhelming. This guide uses real series schedule data to show you which tracks give you the most value for your money.
The 8/12 Rule
Each iRacing season runs for 12 weeks, but your championship score only counts your best 8 weeks — the worst 4 are dropped. Racing at least 8 separate weeks in a series also earns you iRacing participation credits. So you don't need to own every track in a series — 8 of 12 is the sweet spot, and some of those weeks may already use free tracks, reducing what you need to buy even further.
Pro tip: Focus on hitting the 8-week threshold for your favorite series first, then expand from there.
Buy tracks that overlap multiple series
The smartest strategy is to buy tracks that appear in multiple series you're interested in. A single track purchase that covers weeks in 3-4 series is far more valuable than one that only appears in one series. Our planner uses a set-cover algorithm to find exactly these high-value tracks.
